Full course description

This 1-hour course provides a primer on the basics of interprofessional education and collaborative practice from a national perspective. It also provides an overview of what Creighton University’s Center for Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research (CIPER) does to support and innovate interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

This course is a pre-requisite to Introduction to Collaborative Care, which offers 8 CE/CMEs and provides a more in-depth look at the topic. The course is intended to introduce concepts for both education and practice related to interprofessionalism.

The program is delivered to participants using a distance education platform. The didactic lecture is electronically captured and packaged with written materials (references, case studies, self-evaluation quizzes).

Objectives

  • Define interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP)
  • Describe how interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) addresses the Quadruple Aim (population health, cost of care, patient experience and clinician wellness)
  • Discuss how the core competencies for IPCP can be integrated into the clinical learning environment
  • Identify strategies for teaching interprofessional skills to health science students in the clinical learning environment

Occupational/Physical Therapy
The Boards of Occupational and Physical Therapy Practice do not pre-approve continuing education course offerings, but will accept a continuing education activity when they are planned and conducted for occupational and physical therapists and the continuing education activity relates to the practice of Occupational and Physical Therapy. Each professional is responsible for their own certification.
