Full course description

The Introduction to Collaborative Care course provides an introduction to the concepts of interprofessional collaborative practice preparing professionals across the health care continuum to engage in interprofessional education and practice activities. In this course health care professionals will gain knowledge in the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice, versed in the basics of team work in the context of health care and begin to develop skills in team-based clinical reasoning.

The program is delivered to participants using a distance education platform.  Didactic lectures are electronically captured and packaged with written materials (references, case studies, self-evaluation quizzes) covering a total of 10 topics.

Target Audience

This course is for all health care professionals interested in interprofessional collaborative practice. Please note, this course is introductory and not intended for those well versed in interprofessional education and collaborative practice.

    • Describe the relevance of implementing interprofessional education and collaborative practice across health care settings.
    • Articulate the roles/responsibilities of health care professionals involved in interprofessional care.
    • Identify best practices for team-based collaborative health care practice.
    • Engage in required preparation to possess the knowledge to implement skills for team-based collaborative health care practice.
