This module is part of the Advanced Critical Care Therapeutics Series.

In this module, we’ll compare the pharmacologic options for sedation, analgesia and paralysis in the intensive care unit. We will review clinical practice guidelines for the prevention and management of pain, sedation and delirium in adult patients. We’ll also discuss the dosing adverse effects and monitoring for each agent.

Objectives

  • Compare and contrast pharmacologic options for sedation, analgesia, and paralysis in the ICU
  • Review the Society of Critical Care Medicine’s clinical practice guidelines for the management of pain, agitation, and delirium in adult patients
  • Recognize dosing, adverse effects, and monitoring for each agent discussed
