Requirements / Course Format

This course is made up of an online, asynchronous webinar material followed by two days of in-person didactics. Participants must complete the online material prior to the in-person didactic portion on October 24-25, 2025. Upon registration, participants will gain access to the online material through your Student Dashboard.

Participants must pass with at least an 80% on the post-test and email the certificate of completion to Julie Peterson at juliepeterson@creighton.edu.

Please note: This continuing education course includes extensive lab work and all participants should come prepared to participate as both the clinician and the patient.

Objectives: 
During and upon completion of this course the student will engage in activities that lead to the following behaviors and learning experiences: 

i. Describe the urogenital system in a normal functioning adult. 

ii. Identify common bladder and pelvic floor pathologies occurring in the women’s health patient. 

iii. Screen patient’s dietary and toileting habits and identify common medical interventions for management of bladder dysfunctions. 

iv. Perform an internal pelvic floor examination on a women’s health patient. 

v. Apply biofeedback and electrical stimulation techniques for pelvic floor dysfunctions. 

vi. Discuss common bladder tests and measures for identifying pathology. 

vii. Apply physical therapy treatment interventions for bladder and pelvic floor. 

viii. Discuss documentation and payment issues specific to the women’s health patient.

Julie Peterson, PT, DPT, EdD, WCS, BCB-PMD, FNAP

Dr. Peterson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Creighton University.  She has been working with patients with pelvic floor dysfunctions, including bowel and bladder dysfunctions for over 24 years.  Dr. Peterson developed the Women’s Health Residency Program at Creighton University and is now a mentor in the Program. She previously served as the Director of PT Residency Programs at Creighton, but now is the Director of Clinical Operations for the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, overseeing the faculty therapy practice in Omaha, NE. She is also the Director of Simulation-Based Learning for the University. Dr. Peterson’s research interests include residency education, clinical reasoning, pelvic health, and competency-based education.
